The department of Physics was founded in 1933. It is one of the oldest departments of National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, which has retained long-standing scientific and pedagogical traditions. In 2017 the Department of Physics was restructured which resulted in Academic and Research Production Laboratory for Aerodynamic and Aeroacoustic Testing of Building Structures incorporation. The restructured department was named the Department of Physics and Building Aerodynamics .

Currently, the department consists of 7 associate professors, 5 senior lecturers and education support staff. There are also 10 researchers, including 2 Doctors of technical sciences, 5 PhDs in technical sciences, 3 engineers and 1 detailer involved in the work of Academic and Research Production Laboratory for Aerodynamic and Aeroacoustic Testing of Building Structures.

Physics and Building Aerodynamics department staff members regularly confirm their qualifications by taking part in science and technology conferences (including international participation). The results of scientific activities are followed by scientific works that are published in peer-reviewed Russian and foreign journals.

A large-scale scientific and methodological work is carried out at the department.

Textbooks, monographs, guidelines for practical and laboratory classes are compiled, published and regularly updated for all sections of physics and building aerodynamics.

At the department there are two students scientific clubs: “Popularization of physics achievements in the construction sphere” (since 2011), and “Fundamentals of architectural and construction aerodynamics” (since 2017).
