DELEGATION FROM SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC VISITS MGSU
On December 10, 2019, representatives of the Syrian Arab Republic, including Prof. Dr. Mohammed Maher Kabakibi, President, University of Damascus, and Dr. Ward Mohamed Omar, Advisor for research and cultural relations between Syria and Russia, visited MGSU. They made a tour of MGSU and met Andrey Volkov, Acting rector, MGSU. According to the Syrian guests, the University of Damascus is willing to develop cooperation between the two universities, namely, to implement joint educational programmes, research and educational projects. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Maher Kabakibi spoke about the University of Damascus. It is one of major higher education institutions in the East. It has more than 30 institutes, 9 research institutions and 9 university hospitals, and the number of its students is about 270 thousand. A substantial number of the university lecturers obtained their degrees in the USSR and in the Russian Federation. The Minister of Education of the Syrian Arab Republic also studied in the USSR, he is a graduate of MISI-MGSU. At the meeting with the Syrian colleagues, Acting rector spoke about the university, its versatile traditions dealing with research and creative activities. He also made the point that 40 Syrian students and several postgraduates studied at the university. When speaking about the prospects for cooperation with the Syrian Arab Republic, Acting rector mentioned that numerous researchers and artists were graduates of MGSU. The university does its best to maintain contact with each of them; therefore, he would be happy to see the Minister of Education of the Syrian Arab Republic among the university guests. After the meeting, the representatives of the University of Damascus made a tour of the university premises and visited the laboratory for wind-tunnel testing of engineering structures.
