In 2007 prof. Vladimir I. Andreev became the Head of the Department. He is a full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Worker of the Higher School of the Russian Federation, member of the National Russian Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honorary Professor of Warsaw Polytechnic University, Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transport and Architecture, Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Honorary Builder of Russia. V.I. Andreev managed to preserve positive experience accumulated by the department over the years.
In 2008, the department moved to a new building with two computer labs equippedwith 20 computers. These classes are used for student education, computer testing, conferences and theses defenses.
Since 2021 D.Eng.Sc., Professor Oleg V. Mkrtychev is the Head of the Department of Mechanics of Materials.
