The MGSU team took 3rd place in the international competition "International Ice and Snow Construction Festival 2019"
From the 19th to 22nd December, the annual "International Festival of Ice and Snow Construction" was held at the Harbin Institute of Technology (China), and this year the team from our university took part in this event for the first time. Eight students from various institutes went to China to create a small architectural form of snow. The essence of the competition is to cut an interesting, beautiful and eye-catching object from a pressed snow cube with a 3-meter edge, using the tools provided by the organizers of the competition.
The MGSU project and the idea was invented and created under the observation by one of our student from an Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Dasha Sokolina, and was a complex architectural form with arches, a console overhang and a mini atrium. Within two days our group cut out about two-thirds of the snow from the provided snow cube using four scarps and three shovels. We ensured the smoothness of the walls using tools similar to graters, and, it must be said, the quality of the processing of our snow house was admired by other participants and spectators.
Speaking of participants! The competition was attended by 16 teams from all around the world, of which three teams were from Russia (Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk and Moscow), one from Australia, and the rest were representing various universities in China. Some teams had snow experience (such as the Harbin Institute team), and some - such as the team from John Curtin University (Australia) – have seen snow for the first time in their life! Nevertheless, everyone worked together and cheerfully (despite the temperature of -20 Celsius) and even helped each other a little.

As a result, representatives of SibStrIn (Novosibirsk) took the first place, the team from Khabarovsk took the second, and we took the honorable third place.
