RECTOR OF TU ILMENAU VISITS NRU MGSU
Peter Scharff, Rector, TU Ilmenau, Germany, visited NRU MGSU October 16, 2018. The programme of his visit comprised a meeting with the executives of NRU MGSU and a tour of the university.
Peter Scharff met with the university executives and discussed the issues of cooperation. At the meeting, NRU MGSU was represented by Andrey Anatolyevich Volkov, Rector, Elena Sergeyevna Gogina, Vice-rector, Nadezhda Dmitriyevna Cherednichenko, Director, Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Natalia Vladimirovna Samotesova, Head of Department for Coordination of International Cooperation, Olga Nikolayevna Kuzina, Director, Institute of Economics, Management and Information Systems in Civil Engineering and Real Estate, Alexander Vitalyevich Ginzburg, Director, Department of Information Systems, Technologies and Automation in Civil Engineering, and Anastasia Igorevna Ryzhkova, Senior Lecturer, Department of Information Systems, Technologies and Automation in Civil Engineering.
Andrey Anatolyevich Volkov briefed the foreign guest about the history of the university, its present-day development and prospects. He drew attention to the successes of its school of thought and spoke in detail about its “smart building” project. Moreover, Andrey Anatolyevich Volkov informed his foreign colleague about the cooperation with the universities of Germany. Peter Scharff spoke about the most relevant problems to be solved by higher education institutions in Germany.
TU Ilmenau boasts a storied history; it’s one of the four universities in Thuringia. It has several faculties, and it is renowned for its fundamental research. The Faculty of Informatics and Automation is a major faculty of TU Ilmenau; it’s focused on the development of robots and remote-piloted vehicles for “smart” cities of the future. The rector of TU Ilmenau remarked that interaction with NRU MGSU could improve the quality of education, and he suggested considering the launch of joint educational programmes.
After the meeting with the NRU MGSU executives, the rector of TU Ilmenau had a tour of NRU MGSU. He saw its laboratories and academic buildings and visited the gradient wind tunnel. Peter Scharff highly praised the research facilities of NRU MGSU and remarked that cooperation between the two universities would make a substantial contribution into global research.
